The Ferndale Middle/High school Clothing closet has grown! This student lead initiative was designed and implemented by Ms. Karcher's interior design class. The students were tasked with coming up with the design of new clothing closet. The requirements were functionality, ease of use, organization, and aesthetic. All clothing in the former BIR room is now hung on 5 wheeled six foot clothing racks. It is organized by gender and item, then size. Undergarments and hygiene items are kept in cabinets (not shown) and sorted by gender, size , and item. Laminated hanging signs helps a student easily identify find exactly what they need.
The "old closet" now houses winter coats, hats, shoes, socks, and hanging overstock clothing. with varying sizes and styles.
Who knows better what teenagers wear? TEENAGERS! Student also have the final say of what clothing they would like to see hanging their closet. They choose the clothing they feel would be selected by potential shoppers. Its a win-win! Having a student lead clothing closet reduces the stigma of clothing insecurities. Many students who work in the closet have found items they like, whether they have a need or not. The quality of the clothing at the Ferndale Area High School clothing closet rivals any trendy boutique, which is made possible by YOU, our generous donors.
Students are still working towards the final aesthetic; paint color and closet accouterments.
We would like to thank Lee Initiatives for providing funding for clothing closet buildouts at Ferndale Area Elementary and Ferndale Area Middle/High School. We would also like to thank you, our faithful donors, who believe in our mission of providing seasonally appropriate, school appropriate clothing, shoes, and hygiene items.

This shared space houses additional pants for boys and girls, allowing for more choices of styles and fit.
